To start my magazine I also need to know more about what other things go on a magazine front cover and what fonts give different effects:

Font
  • Serif font - eg. Times new roman etc.  - old fashioned and traditional.
  • Sans serif font - eg. Comic sans, arial etc. - modern, 'trendy.'
  • Handwriting font - eg. monotype corsiva - more personal.
  • Other - eg. wingdings, symbols.
Other types of writing on a magazine front cover include -
  • Banner/masthead - title.
  • Sell lines - the text that tells you what's inside the magazine - they sell the magazine.
  • Burst - looks exciting; intrigues the reader - might be a competition etc.
  • Menu bar - advertises other things happening in the magazine. (always at the bottom)
  • 'Blue line' - bar code, price, issue date, web adress etc.
Images
  • Back and white - classical and timeless; old fashioned.
  • Most magazines have a 3 colour as not to confuse the reader.
  • Busy and cluttered - interesting a exciting.
  • Simple and clean - sophisticated and organised - have a secure target audience
Other information
  • Call out - when a quote is taken from the text and put into the copy (article) in a bigger font.
  • Capitals and exclamation marks - SHOUTING! Important!
  • Target Audience: Students? Parents? Both?
